AN IB WORLD SCHOOL

Curriculum

A dynamic, challenging, and supportive place to prepare for college

The Upper School at Saint George's offers a rigorous, college-preparatory program that is guided and shaped by the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program. The Upper School is an energetic setting where outstanding teachers encourage and challenge students, preparing them to succeed in higher education and in their career pursuits beyond university. SGS graduates are courted by schools around the region and the country. Since 2012, Saint George’s graduates have been offered an average of over $100,000 in merit scholarships, rewarding them for their academic achievements.

Most Upper School students pursue the full International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma, which includes courses in Literature, Language Acquisition, Individuals and Societies, Mathematics, Experiential Sciences, and the Arts. The full Diploma also includes Core components: writing an Extended Essay, participating in the Theory of Knowledge course, and committing to Creativity, Action, and Service (CAS), a program that acts in balance to the academic pursuits. All IB students can earn certificates for college credit.

Upper School students are challenged and supported in their classes. Teachers know their subjects and their students. SGS alumni frequently return to tell us that their teachers at Saint George’s were integral to their success. Teachers communicate regularly with parents and students, providing individual comments, support, and feedback. The personal connections with students set Saint George’s apart from other schools.

CAS has both encouraged me to extend my learning into projects I enjoy and at the same time reflect on my extracurricular activities more deeply.
