AN IB WORLD SCHOOL

Technology

Our students touch the wider world through technology

Saint George’s will prepared your child to enter a world where technology permeates our lives. They will get a head start at school, learning the skills they will need to move into the global market after graduation.

Computers are used in every grade and division to increase your child's skills, reinforce teacher’s lessons, and foster better communication between Saint George's and its parent community. Whether visually concept mapping, editing and recording an interview for a Podcast, or solving complex math problems with computer algebra systems, technological literacy is part of becoming an educated person in the 21st Century. The skills they gain will speed their way wherever the future takes them.

Most campus buildings have wireless Internet access, and students commonly use personal devices at school.  Saint George's has a "Bring Your Own Device" policy throughout the Upper School, with your child using tablets and/or laptop computers in each class.  A variety of devices can meet the hardware and software requirements, and the school provides printing and charging resources.

Saint George’s two libraries hold plenty of books, but some of the best resources are not as visible. Connections to Proquest, eLibrary, and SIRS research databases links your childs to thousands of online scholarly journals and newspapers. Your child will be able to follow world events from an international perspective with the Columbia International Affairs Online journal and the Associated Press Photo and News Archives. Our 19 Lower School Library computers include software tools for your child to research, write, calculate, and “Power Point” class projects. Plus there is an impressive collection of documentary and feature films on DVD and books on CD.

Your child will incorporate all of these library resources into learning activities. Fifth graders research the lives of famous artists in the Lower School Library, culminating in a biographical scrapbook presented during their Living Artists show. Upper School students investigate colleges and scholarship opportunities, as well as IB Extended Essay topics. In addition, your child will run active book and movie clubs in the bright, comfortable Middle/Upper School Library.
