College Trips

Visiting colleges helps students focus their search

Nothing beats seeing it for yourself. Saint George's ninth graders follow that advice each year with a day-long visit to a private college in Eastern Washington. Sophomores spend three days as a class exploring a variety of schools in Oregon, and juniors can choose from week-long trips to visit California or East Coast colleges and universities. They talk to current students, tour the campuses, get a feel for life at college. And they discover how competitive the admissions process can be for top public and private institutions.

For example, students on the 2016 Spring Trip to Southern California visited Orange Coast College, University of California (UC) Irvine, UC San Diego, University of San Diego, Palomar College, University of Redlands, the Claremont Colleges (Harvey Mudd, Pitzer, Claremont McKenna, Pomona, and Scripps), Chapman, Pepperdine, Occidental, Cal Tech, Loyola Marymount and UCLA.

Exploring different schools allows students to compare urban and rural settings, religious and non-religious orientations, big public universities and small private colleges to find the right school for them.
