The 7th grade boys' and girls' basketball teams hosted Newport in Metters Gym on Feb. 12.  See photo galleries of the action from the 7th Grade Boys Game and the 7th Grade Girls Game.

The boys' and girls' JV basketball teams hosted Northwest Christian at the Holy Grail competition on Jan. 31.  See photo galleries of the athletes in action at the Girls' Game in ESAC and the Boys' Game in Metters Gym.

After taking a loss to Colfax on Feb. 13 in the second round of Districts (see Photo Gallery by Bob Jones), the SGS girls varsity team rebounded to overpower Wilbur-Creston 70-24 to advance in the losers bracket of the Girls NE 2B District Tournament at West Valley HS on Feb. 15.  Annika Bergquist had 20 points, followed by sister Lydia's 17 points, and both pulled down a dozen rebounds.  The Dragons (17-5 overall) face Kettle Falls (15-8) in a loser out game at 5pm on Tuesday, Feb. 18 at West Valley.  (See the Girls District Brackets.)  If the girls win, they play either Liberty of Davenport for a ticket to Regionals, most likely at 7pm on Thursday, Feb. 20.

The SGS boys varsity team also defeated Wilbur-Creston 75-45 on Feb. 13, powered by Nico Morales' 27 points.  See a Photo Gallery of the game by Katie Brown.  The Dragons, 18-3 overall and ranked 2nd in State, advance to the tournament's semi-final game against Lind-Ritzville-Sprague at 8pm on Tuesday, Feb. 18 at West Valley HS.  (See the Boys District Brackets.)  A win by the boys will put them in the District finals game at 2pm on Saturday, Feb. 22.  Get out to West Valley and support your Dragons!

Three SGS basketball players from each of the varsity teams were named All-League athletes for the 2019-20 season.  Congratulations to Nico Morales, Dan Rigsby, and Nick Watkins on the boys' team.  And kudos to Annika Bergquist, Cambrie Rickard, and Lydia Bergquist on the girls' team.  Lydia also was named League Co-MVP, and girls' coach Cliff Berdar was honored as the Co-Coach of the Year.  Go Dragons!

The seven senior girls and two senior boys on the SGS basketball teams were honored and shared roses with family and friends at Senior Night on Feb. 6.  See a Photo Gallery of them, compliments of alumni and former basketball parent Bob Jones.

Both the SGS boys and girls varsity basketball teams claimed Northeast 2B League titles and the #1 seeds to their District Tournaments beginning this week at West Valley HS.  The boys are 17-3 overall and have a 1st round bye, so they will play on Thursday, Feb. 13 at 5pm vs either Wilbur-Creston or Reardan (Boys District Brackets).  The SGS girls are 16-4 overall and also have a 1st round bye, so they will play on Thursday, Feb. 13 at 8pm vs either Chewelah or Colfax (Girls District Brackets).  The top four boys and girls teams in the District will advance to Regionals and a shot at the State Tournament.  See photo galleries of the Boys Team and the Girls Team in action last week (Feb. 6) when they hosted Davenport on Senior Night (photos by Bob Jones).

The 7th and 8th graders spent the day of Jan. 28 cross country skiing on Mt. Spokane and enjoying plenty of exercise in the snow!  See a Photo Gallery of them in the deep powder, compliments of parent Jayne McLaughlin.

After a tough 48-52 loss to Colfax in the second round of the NE 2B District Tournament, the SGS girls basketball team will play Wilbur-Creston at 3:30pm on Saturday, Feb. 15 at West Valley HS.  (See the Girls District Bracket and a Photo Gallery of images from the game shot by Bob Jones.)  A loss in any of their next three games would end their season, so come out and cheer them on!

The boys varsity team won their own match up with Wilbur-Creston 75-45 and will play Lind-Ritzville-Sprague at 8pm on Tuesday, Feb. 18 at West Valley HS.  (See the Boys District Bracket.)  Go Dragons!

Both boys and girls basketball teams will honor their seniors at the last regular season game vs Davenport on Thursday, Feb. 6 in ESAC Gym.  Seniors will share roses with their biggest supporters at 7:15pm between the girls and boys varsity games.  See the Full Schedule of athletic events for this week.  Both teams have already locked up 1st place in their respective district tournaments, so come see two of the best 2B basketball teams in the state in action!
