The Dragons opened the State 2B Tournament with a 54-40 quarter-final win over Brewster (see Photo Gallery and Video Highlights).  In the semi-final game vs Liberty, the Dragons had to come from behind to force overtime and pull out a 64-60 victory (see S-R Article, Photo Gallery and Video of the end of regulation and overtime).  In the State Championship Game, Saint George's stayed close to the defending champion Kittitas Coyotes, trailing by just 3 at halftime.  But cold shooting in the second half put the Dragons in a hole they couldn't climb out of, losing 65-50.  It was their only loss of the season, earning the 2nd place State trophy (see S-R Article, Photo Gallery, Video of Introductions and Video Highlights).  See the final Boys Tournament Bracket with all the results.

"We played well enough to win, we defended well enough to be there in the end," SGS coach Ryan Peplinski said to a Spokesman-Review reporter afterwards.  "I don't think we left a lot out there.  This was a special group."  Congratulations on a great season, Dragons!

Saint George's girls played Mabton in their first State 2B Tournament game on Feb. 28, earning a 45-35 win (see S-R Article, Photo Gallery, and Video Highlights).  In the quarterfinal game, the Dragons faced down #1 seed Ilwaco for a 62-54 victory and a spot in the State Final Four (see S-R Article and Photo Gallery).  Colfax's Carmen Gfeller scored 28 points against Saint George's in the semi-final game, knocking out the Dragons 55-48 (see S-R Article and Photo Gallery) and sending them to battle Napavine for the 3rd place trophy.  That final game of the season featured 12 points by Mia Smith and 9 rebounds by Shayla Melendez, leading to a 50-44 Dragon victory (see S-R Article, Photo Gallery, Video of Team Introductions and Video Highlights).  See the final Girls Tournament Bracket with all the results.

The 3rd place hardware marks the 12th time the SGS girls basketball team has earned a state trophy, tying them with Reardan for the most by any active 2B team in the state.  Congratulations on a great season!

Saint George's boys' basketball team topped Toutle Lake 72-48 on Feb. 24 behind Ben Adams' 28 point effort.  The #2 seeded Dragons will play the winner of #8 Brewster vs. #9 Life Christian at 9:00pm on Thursday, March 1 in the Spokane Arena.  See the full Boys State 2B Bracket for details.

The SGS girls' team fell 50-43 to Davenport on Feb. 23 in their 2B Regional game.  The #7 seeded Dragons will play #10 Mabton at 10:30am Wednesday, Feb. 28 in the Spokane Arena.  This is a loser-out game so a must win for the team.  See the full Girls State 2B Bracket.  Go cheer on your Dragons at the State 2B Tournament!

Saint George's will bus Upper School students to the girls' State 2B basketball game on Wednesday morning, Feb. 28.  There is an E-Permission form on PowerSchool that must be signed by a parent for each student to go to the game.  Students must go on the bus to the game; since it is in the middle of the school day, we will transport them there and back.  We will have a study hall at school for anyone who does not want to go or does not have a signed permission form by Tuesday at 3pm.  The game will be on the East Court, with the SGS fans cheering in section #102.  See the full Girls State 2B Bracket, and Go Dragons!
