SGS art teacher Jennifer Davenport and four other independent school teachers from across the Northwest have created a podcast called If School Walls Could Talk.  Sponsored by the Northwest Association of Independent Schools, they formed the Fellowship for Collaborative Innovation last fall to help schools sustain, flourish and thrive into the future.  The podcast was their response, hoping to inspire conversations about the issues facing private schools and the students who attend them.

You can listen to a one-minute Introductory Trailer recorded by Jennifer.  The group's first three podcasts on Effective Meetings, Student Stress & Anxiety, and Portrait of a Graduate are available on Spotify, Google Podcasts, Breaker, Radio Public, and Anchor.  Discussion guides for each episode are now available on the NWAIS Website.

Photos from PSAT Exam Day

October 21, 2019

All looking very focused, the 8th through 11th graders spent the morning of Oct. 16 taking the PSAT exam in Metters Gym.  See a Photo Gallery of them hard at work.  For the 11th graders, this test could qualify them for National Merit Scholarships!

Admission representatives from colleges and universities will be in the US Library conference room this coming week.  Students can learn more about nearby Whitworth University on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at lunch, from Regis University on Friday, Oct. 25 at lunch, and from Pomona College on Monday, Oct. 28 from 2:00-2:30pm.  For information on other college representatives coming to SGS, contact Kerry Clark.

The morning of Wednesday, Oct. 16 is PSAT testing time for grades 8-11.  Students should bring an appropriate calculator and get a good night's sleep beforehand.  The purpose of the “Preliminary SAT” is to practice the standardized test-taking skills needed to do well on the SAT and the ACT.  PSAT scores also are used to identify National Merit Scholars and award merit scholarships.  The Senior Class, instead of taking the PSAT, will have an "Introduction to Adulting" with Josh Hayes and Melanie Mildrew.  That should also be good preparation for college!

The kindergarten kids and their 6th grade buddies roamed the campus on Oct. 7 to collect leaves for a science project.  See photo galleries of them out Collecting Leaves and then Creating Science Posters of the different kinds of leaves they found.

Admission representatives from colleges and universities will be in the US Library conference room this coming week.  Students can learn more about the University of Chicago on Thursday, Oct. 17 from 1:30-2pm and the University of Redlands at lunch on Friday, Oct. 18.  For information on other college representatives coming to SGS, contact Kerry Clark.
