Congratulations to the 4th and 5th grade Math Is Cool teams who represented SGS at the State Masters competition in Moses Lake this past Saturday, May 18.  The fourth-grade team of Ava Bot, Adam Ling, Preston Sevigny, Taylor Teague, and alternate Adrian Rooney was coached by Rick Petrini.  Coached by Sam Wyss, the fifth graders at the competition were Matthew Longstreth, Megan Neiwert, Britta Ohnback, Per Sande, and alternate Regan Thomas.  Both teams were great ambassadors for the school and displayed teamwork and confidence at a tough competition.  Go Dragons!

The Kindergarten class put on their decorated "butterfly" wings and released the bright orange butterflies that have been developing in their classroom on May 15, 2019 on Graduation Lawn.  See a Photo Gallery of the big and little butterflies on Graduation Lawn!

The annual Lower School Writers' Celebration on May 7 began in Metters Gym with time to look at books the students have written, hear the choir sing, and follow student leaders off to the rooms where each student would read what they've written.  See a Photo Gallery of this introduction time.  Then everyone headed to different rooms to listen to each Lower Schooler read something that they had written for class.  See a Photo Gallery of them reading and listening.  A lot of impressive writers - and readers - in the Lower School!

Sidewalk chalk meets Adam Smith!  Josh Hayes’ junior Econ class spent an afternoon class outdoors in front of the Upper School creating graphs and charts to test their knowledge of economic functions.  See a Photo Gallery of the students and their chalk creations across the front of the Upper School.

The 7th graders traveled to Republic to search for fossils at the Stonerose site and to learn about the plants and animals that inhabited that location millions of years ago.  Thanks to Antony Chiang for this Photo Gallery of the students discovering the past preserved in stone.

The annual awards ceremony for Upper School students was held in Founders Theater on April 30.  See a Photo Gallery of the award winners.  Congratulations to all of the students who were recognized for their accomplishments over the past year!

The Lower School's annual Writers' Celebration is this Tuesday, May 7 from 6:30-8pm in Metters Gym.  Beginning at 6pm, enjoy looking at student artwork in the gym, LS hallways and library, and viewing displayed books published by K-5 students in the gym.  After some songs in the gym by the LS Choir, everyone will spread out to different rooms in the Lower School where each student in grades K-5 will share a piece of their writing in front of a small group of parents and students.  Come enjoy this celebration of writing at SGS!  

May 1st was College Decision Day for high school seniors across the U.S.  So a group of SGS seniors wore shirts and sweatshirts that day from the colleges and universities they will be attending this fall.  Congratulations to all of the Class of 2019, who are now done with classes and are preparing for their IB exams!

Representatives from fifteen Jesuit colleges and universities from across the U.S. gathered in the Upper School Courtyard on April 29 to talk to students about what their schools have to offer.  See a Photo Gallery of the students engaging in good conversations and getting acquainted with schools they may not have been aware of.

The annual awards for Upper School students will be handed out beginning at 8:25am on Tuesday, April 30 in Founders Theater.  The approximately 70-minute-long ceremony will honor the top students in each academic area, as well as athletes and volunteers.  Congratulations to all the award winners for an outstanding year!
