It was an exciting afternoon last week when the 1st graders learned about all the good things worms do for the soil and got to hold some of the little wrigglers too!  See a Photo Gallery of the wiggly fun!

The 2nd graders spent an afternoon making bubbles -- lots of tiny bubbles that blow away and some really big bubbles that they could stand inside of!  See the Video of them learning about the fun science of bubbles.

Parents of seniors, please save the date of Wednesday, Oct. 3 for a special College Night presentation at 6:00pm in the Dragon Room.  Learn all about the college admission process, news from the NACAC conference, and the SGS college counseling services designed to help your senior find and gain admission to the right college or university for them.  Parents of 11th graders also are welcome to attend.

Senior Ethan Hunter has earned a Letter of Commendation for his high score on the PSAT test from the National Merit Scholarship Corp.  Ethan was among the top 50,000 seniors nationwide (out of 1.6 million) who took the PSAT.  Congratulations!

SGS students and parents are invited to attend the Exploring College Options event on Monday, Oct. 1 from 7-9pm at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Spokane City Center (322 N Spokane Falls Ct.).  Representatives of Duke, Georgetown, Harvard, Pennsylvania, and Stanford universities will provide information on the college admissions process.  They suggest arriving 15 to 20 minutes beforehand to complete the sign-in process and find a seat.  See the Registration Website or talk to Kerry Clark for more information.

Admissions representatives from several colleges and universities will visit SGS during the coming week.  Students need to get released from their classes to attend meetings in the US Library study room with:

> Reed College (11:30am-12:00pm, Wed., Sept. 26)
> Linfield College (11:30am-12:00pm, Thu., Sept. 27)
> Hillsdale College (11:15-11:45am, Mon., Oct 1)

Class and individual pictures will be taken this week on Tuesday, Sept. 18 for grades 6-12 and on Thursday, Sept. 20 for grades K-5.  All students will have an individual picture taken for ID cards regardless of whether they order pictures.  Students must bring their individualized picture form (with bar code) to present to the photographer on picture day, whether or not they are ordering photos.  If ordering, please include payment with the order form.

The Middle School English classes spent time on Sept. 7 brainstorming ideas of things they would like to do some day.  Then they put them on 2400 post-it notes all over a hallway for everyone to see!  See a Photo Gallery of their creative ideas, which will be refined for future class projects.
