Congratulations to the 5th Grade Math is Cool Team, who placed 2nd in the Team Division on Friday, Feb. 9 at Mead High School.  Rohan Dhillon earned 1st place in the Individual Competition as well.  See the full list of MIC team members and which four are headed to the State Masters Championships...

No Classes on Friday, Feb. 16

Friday, February 16 is a Teacher In-Service Day at Saint George's for faculty meetings and professional development.  There are no classes for grades K-12.  The following Monday, Feb. 19 is also a federal holiday for Presidents' Day with no classes, so this will be a four-day weekend...

The 5th grade class researched immigrants to America from 1918 and then had their own Ellis Island experience on Friday, Feb. 9.  After dressing up in character, each student described their life as an immigrant during the Lower School Assembly (see Video).  Then they had to negotiate the bureaucracy (their parents) of "Ellis Island" to become American citizens.  See a Photo Gallery of their experience...

MS Math Is Cool Teams Are Tops

The Jan. 26 Math is Cool Regional Competition had some confusion over the results, says coach Shane Kangas, but Saint George's will send two Middle School teams to State.  The 6th grade team captured 1st Place in their division and earned the highest score in the entire Spokane competition!  The 8th grade team finished 2nd overall and also is headed to State.  See the full teams and more results...

The 10th grade Spanish class visited the Kindergarten on Feb. 5 and read Spanish children’s books to the younger students.  See a Photo Gallery of them enjoying some time together on the floors of the Lower School....

Saint George's is leading a spring break trip to Southern California for 9th, 10th and 11th grade students to visit a variety of colleges.  The trip from Sunday, April 1 to Thursday, April 5 will include visits to most of these schools: Cal Tech, Chapman, Pomona, Claremont McKenna, Pitzer, Harvey Mudd, Pepperdine, Redlands, Loyola Marymount, USC, Occidental, and UCLA.  A deposit is due by Feb. 1, so check with kerry.clark@sgs.org or call 464-8777 for more details...

This Thursday, Feb. 1 and Friday, Feb. 2 are parent-teacher conferences for the Lower School.  There are no classes for grades K-5 those days, and After School Care is available at no cost during your child's conference...

Juniors Grace Generous and Charlie Darnall won the Greater Spokane League Title against schools of all sizes at the Ferris High School Tournament on Jan. 26-27.  The GSL contest is typically a team effort against much larger schools, including Mead, Lewis & Clark, and Gonzaga Prep.  The contest is season-long, so a number of debaters contributed points to the win, including senior Kylie Vera, junior Nik Chaudhry, and up-and-coming ninth graders Paul Darnall and Chaitanya Nalluri, who also reached the Elite Eight at this weekend’s tournament.  Go Dragons!

The 5th graders helped the 1st graders draw and glue paper “organs” on their big “Human Body” papers so they could show what was inside of themselves!  See a Photo Gallery of their collaborative project from mid-January...
