On Wednesday, Dec. 6, the IB English class of junior and senior international students held a mock "Climate Summit".  The students researched the issues surrounding global warming and climate change and argued from the  perspective of different countries.  See photos from the class and comments from those who watched... 

On Dec. 5, the 8th graders worked in Science class to get the right mix of gravel, cement, and water to make permeable concrete for a “storm garden” to be created on campus.  See a Photo Gallery of their messy lab work...

The Coding and Maker Club is open to students in grades 3-8 who are interested in learning how to program video games, use a vinyl cutter to make stickers, and create digital compositing with a green screen.  Taught by Travis Cullitan, Director of Technology, the Coding and Maker Club begins Thursday, Jan. 4, and will run weekly through March 29.  This club is now full..

The 5th graders paired up to construct bridges with up to 1000 toothpicks and glue.  Then on Dec. 1, 2017 they tested how much weight their bridges could hold using half-pound bags of sand.  See a Photo Gallery and a Video of the Bridges Breaking (and sometimes exploding!), including the winning span that held 17.5 lbs! 

Saint George's debaters Kylie Vera (senior) and Grace Generous (junior) took 2nd place at the University of Washington Debate Tournament on Dec. 2-3.  Vera and Generous debated schools of all sizes, from cities up and down the West Coast.  The duo lost the championship round on a questionable split decision to Damien High School of Los Angeles, but still managed to earn a rare bid to the Tournament of Champions next summer, and to solidify a place among the nation's most elite teams.  Individually, Vera was the tournament's 4th place individual speaker based on points; Generous took 6th.  Go Dragons!

On Friday, Dec. 1, three seniors helped the 4th graders use GPS devices to search for “geocaches”, hidden cans with math clues, in the woods above campus.  See a Photo Gallery of them getting their bearings and heading up into the woods to find their targets...

English teacher and college counselor Kerry Clark has been elected to the board of the Washington Association for the Education of Speakers of Other Languages (WAESOL) to serve as a member-at-large for the next two years.  "Ultimately, I will be serving the interests of my students and other second language students in the state of Washington by representing Saint George’s and Spokane on the board," he says...

The Upper School faculty have selected six seniors as Saint George's candidates for Spokane Scholar awards.  Congratulations to (from left in photo) Cynthia Fan (chosen for Mathematics), Ashley Sande (World Languages), Solveig Baylor (English), Max Mihalick (Social Studies), Connor Cremers (Science), and Susie Jones (Fine Arts).  These students will compete against top students from all Spokane area high schools for scholarship awards in April...
