The 5th graders, along with their teachers and some Upper School guides, launched canoes into the Little Spokane River on Sept. 10 to float to the Painted Rocks and then hike back to campus.  Nobody fell in the water, and several groups of canoers were able to see moose at a safe distance.  See a Photo Gallery of them launching canoes into the river.

SGS Outdoor Director Melanie Mildrew will be leading a group for The Lands Council for this year’s Spokane River clean up on Saturday, Sept. 18.  "We will meet at People’s Park at 10am and clean up across the bridge as we have in the past for about 2 hours," she says.  Contact Melanie at melanie.mildrew@sgs.org by Wed., Sept. 15 to let her know you will help out, and then fill out and sign the River Clean Up Waiver online (parents sign for students under 18).  See The Lands Council website for more details.

The Outdoor Summer Trip floated down the Green River in Utah in June.  Here are some Artistic Photos by David Holte of the petroglyphs, dried mud, and strange rock formations they saw along the way.

The 9th and 10th graders spent two nights/three days paddling, hiking, and bonding with their classmates.  See photo galleries of the two classes Loading the Bus and then Exploring Priest Lake in North Idaho while meeting new friends and reconnecting with old ones.

The juniors' overnight campout took them just a few miles to Riverside State Park along the Spokane River.  But it was a great opportunity to spend time with friends, play volleyball, paddle on the river's calm waters, and prepare for the new school year.  See a Photo Gallery of their activities.

The senior class's overnight trip to Camp Reed included time on the high ropes course.  It was full of challenges and encouragement for everyone!  See a Photo Gallery of them testing their limits high above the ground.

New Saint George's families gathered for lunch and to float down the Little Spokane River on Aug. 21.  Here are photo galleries of people enjoying the river on the Morning Float, then Sharing Lunch on Graduation Lawn, introducing themselves and Preparing for the Afternoon Float, and Launching into the River.

New families launched canoes and kayaks from Graduation Lawn for a float down the Little Spokane River on August 17.  See a Photo Gallery of them exploring the river and getting to know other new students and parents.

The SGS Outdoor Program's 2021 summer trip was canoeing down the Green River in Utah.  Students and staff explored old homesteads, dramatic canyons, petroglyph markings, and a hike along the saddle above Bowknot Bend.  They also saw 5 Window Arch, native pictographs, and the wild formations of Goblin Valley as they paddled from the town of Green River to Mineral Springs.  See a Photo Gallery of their adventures!

Several weeks after the 4th graders had left bags of leaves in the Little Spokane River, they collected their bags and looked for macroinvertibrates (bugs!) that they could identify. Different species indicate whether the river is healthy or not.  See a Photo Gallery of them discovering all kinds of tiny critters!
