AN IB WORLD SCHOOL

Community News

This year’s annual Joya Penny Drive is virtual!  Joya Child and Family Development is an organization that provides necessary medical treatment for children ages 0-3 who have neurological disorders and delays.  Donating to Joya is especially important because Joya provides its services free of charge to many families.  We know this time is financially difficult for many, so any donation, any size, is greatly appreciated!  The penny drive is usually the largest source of donations for Joya, so please consider donating unitl June 1.  “Every penny counts!” Here is the link: https://joya-foundation.snwbll.com/st-george-s

Dear SGS Parents,
This is a four-day week of classes with a long Memorial Day weekend before our final “push” towards the end of the school year.  This past weekend was highlighted by the SGS Virtual Fun Run and the far-reaching participation of Dragons across the globe.  Thank you again to SGS Upper School Teacher, Rachel Hildie, for creating this community event.  It was heartwarming to see the SG Spirit come through in pictures posted to the various social media pages.  We all miss our community gatherings and events that make the SGS experience so special.  Go Dragons!

There is a great deal going on behind the scenes as school continues, so let me give a brief update...

Spokane Teachers Credit Union is offering a $2500 donation to a local non-profit that focuses on children for month of May.  You can vote once per day per email and the non-profit with the most votes by Sunday, May 24th wins.  So please share this and vote at https://stcu.org/here-for-good/community/giving/who-do-you-love each day this week to show your love for Saint George's School.  (SGS is located in the long list under "Saint".)  Go Dragons!

Thank you to everyone who has registered for the SGS virtual fun run. Race weekend is this weekend (May 16th and 17th) so if you signed up, make sure to run your 3.1 miles and submit your time by Sunday evening. There’s still time to sign up if you want to join us! Head to runsignup.com/sgsfunrun by Thursday night to register. Share your race day photos with us by email at rachel.hildie@sgs.org or on the Facebook event page. Everyone who shares photos is entered into a separate raffle for race t-shirts and SGS swag.

Saint George's has worked with a local agency to create two 30-second ads that are running on local television stations this spring to increase the school's visibility in the Spokane area.  See videos of "We Are Saint George's" -- here's the Lower School Ad and the Middle-Upper School Ad.

Today, as I update you on plans at Saint George’s, I again want to express my gratitude for your flexibility and patience as we adapt to the changing circumstances related to the COVID-19 crisis. We have experienced a great disruption in the ways our community engages, and I appreciate your effort and resilience. We will have more challenges ahead, and I am confident we will continue to confront them with a spirit of unity and grace.

I encourage you to read through the updates on our weekly email sent out on Mondays for highlights still ongoing within our community.  Our social media pages are being updated almost daily with uplifting news.

For now, I want to share more information and details about planning for this fall, that continues to be a primary focus...

Saint George's is pleased to announce that because of supporters like you, exceeded our Giving Tuesday goal!  On May 5th, a day of giving and unity for the emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by Covid-19, donors came together to raise $23,000 for SGS.

Every gift made to Saint George’s has an impact on our students and faculty and enables us to continue to provide a top-notch learning experience to inspire scholars, athletes, and artists to serve and lead others.  Thank you for your generosity and your continued support to Power the Dragon!  (If you missed Giving Tuesday and would still like to support the SGS Annual Fund, you have until June 30 to contribute at www.sgs.org/Give.)

Congratulations to the Associated Student Body officers for the 2020-21 school year.  The new Chief of Staff is current junior John DeForest, the President/Vice President team is sophomores Jasmine Brown and Maddy Roberts.  See ASB Advisor Mark Rickard's Announcement of the results and comments on the virtual campaign that all the candidates ran.  Each candidate recorded a video campaign speech and reached out to students via social media.  Elections are possible in a pandemic!
