See Photos & Video of Dragons' State Soccer Championship!

It was as close as a game could get -- no score through regulation and overtime -- but Saint George's boys soccer team prevailed over Life Christian Academy of Tacoma in the penalty kick shootout to take the State 2B/1B Championship in Sumner on Saturday, Nov. 23.  Tanner Watkins, James Gunn, John DeForest, Oscar Angell, Noah Galow, and Marshall Roll all kicked shots past the Life Christian goalie.  The Tacoma team's first five shooters also made it past Dragon keeper Finn Kelly, a freshman, but he blocked their sixth shot and the celebration began!  See a Video of the Shootout.  The Dragons (14-5-1 overall) earned their third state title in five years and fourth championship overall.

Both teams had opportunities to score throughout the match, including knocking shots off the top bar of each other's goals during the contest.  But the defenses held strong against two of the higher scoring 2B teams in the state, leading to the winner-take-all shootout.  See photo galleries from the Finals Match and of the Championship Celebration!  (Thanks to senior Caleb Flegel and alum Tyson Bostrom for additional photos of the match.)

To get to the Finals, the Dragons blanked Crosspoint Academy 3-0 in the State Semis on Nov. 22.  James Gunn scored in the first minute, with John DeForest and Oscar Angell adding second-half goals.  See a Photo Gallery of the Dragons win in the Semifinals.
