AN IB WORLD SCHOOL

A College Prep School

Saint George’s Upper School offers the International Baccalaureate

Teachers at Saint George’s School, an Independent school, believe in preparing children to succeed in our global world. They translate that belief into a balanced curriculum of rigorous academic training rounded out with performing arts and competitive athletics. They believe that parents, who recognize the importance of higher education and who are also concerned with high college costs, don’t want to send their children off ill prepared for the rigors of college academic life or incapable of success in non-academic endeavors.

As a result, students at all levels, K-12, are challenged daily to refine their analytical and creative skills; to question and defend their ideas; to accept responsibility for their actions; and, to develop their self-confidence through activities in and out of the classroom. They learn independence of analytical and creative thought; they learn to write, to think, to communicate more clearly, and to make informed decisions. The philosophy that guides teaching at Saint George’s School prepares students for life even beyond college in our changing and challenging world.

All students, K-12, study a second language. Our math program, developed at Saint George’s, is recognized as the gold standard of the region - so much so that in Math is Cool, we choose to compete in Division One against schools many times our size. Our science program, focusing on hands on inquiry at all levels, lays the groundwork for successful lab pursuits in college, something many of our alums follow. Our Social Studies program regularly shines in national history and economics competitions. Our English program focuses on developing rhetorical, persuasive, and mechanical skills through regular in-class writings, papers, and revisions. Art students at our school win honors for their creativity and skill in regional competitions and showings. In addition, students learn to take ownership of their work, developing organizational skills and strong work ethics that serve them well throughout their lives.

The region’s only International Baccalaureate Diploma school, the Saint George’s curriculum is recognized for the way it prepares student for college and life (information about IB). Our students not only earn admittance to the top schools available to them, but also transition to college easily. In addition to preparing students well, our college counseling team works with each student and family to find a school that fits. As a result of their preparation and strategic college counseling, our students garner exceptional offers of merit aid (the kind that you don’t have to pay back). The students in the class of 2019 were offered a total of over $2 million in merit aid.
