May 22, 2017

Saint George's girls continued their strong running performances at the NE 2B District 7 Championships on May 19-20.  The SGS girls finished 2nd overall with victories by Ashley Sande in the 100 and 200 meter races, wins by Madison Ward in the 800 and 1600 meter runs, a 4x400 meter relay win (by Jora Gleason, Grace Harrill, Madison Ward and Ashley Sande), and a long jump of 16'7" by Taylor Sande.  Taylor's 32'9.25" triple jump was good enough for 2nd overall and a new school record.  Her sister Ashley even set a school record of 25.83 seconds in the 200 meter race.  Grace also will run in the 400 meters (4th) and Jora in the 800 meters (2nd).  Also qualifying for State were Shayla Melendez (4th in shot put) and Mary Neder (3rd in 3200 meters and 4th in 1600 meters).

The boys' team was 6th overall in District, paced by a 2nd place finish in the 4x400 meter relay by Marcus Manson, Samuel Niven, Noah Bade and Mitchell Ward.  Mitchell was 2nd in the 400 meters, setting a new SGS record of 50.80 seconds.  Cade Peplinski also set a school record with his 6'0" high jump.  Samuel also will run in the 100 meters (4th), and Marcus in the 400 meters (4th).  Plus Hunter Johnson (4th in 3200 meters), Dan Rigsby (4th in 800 meters), and Noah Bade (3rd in 200 meters) all qualified for State in those races.

A total of 14 Dragons qualified for the 2B State Championships that begin this Thursday, May 25 at Eastern Washington University.  See the Boys' State Track Meet Schedule and the Girls' Schedule, then get out to EWU to cheer on our Dragons!
