May 30, 2017

Saint George's defending State champion track team scored a number of wins and strong finishes at the 2B State Track and Field Championships at Eastern Washington University on May 25-27.  But they couldn't catch Northwest Christian of Lacey, settling for the 2nd place State trophy.  The Dragons counted state wins in the 200 meter race (Ashley Sande in 25.86), the 800 (Madison Ward in 2:20.25), the 1,600 (Ward in 5:16.16) and the 1,600 relay (Jora Gleason, Grace Harrill, Madison & Ashley in 4:08.64).  Ashley also took 2nd in the 100 meters (12.85) and sister Taylor Sande was 5th in the long jump (16' 8.5") and 5th in the triple jump (33' 6.75").  Jora was 6th overall in the 800 (2:28.86), and Mary Neder placed 4th in the 3,200 meter race (12:20.11) and 8th in the 1,600 (5:37.40).

The SGS boys' team finished tied for 15th overall.  Mitchell Ward took 2nd in the 400 meter race (50.91), while Noah Bade was 4th in the 200 (22.69).  The Dragons' 1,600 relay quartet of Marcus Manson, Noah Bade, Samuel Niven and Mitchell Ward placed 6th with a time of 3:34.56.  See all of the State race and competition results on the WIAA.com Website.
