Dragon Esports Finish Strong in First Season

June 14, 2021

Our Esports team had some incredible rankings in their first year of high school tournament play.  The team put forth two rosters, one for Valorant and another for Minecraft Survival Games.  The Valorant team was led by team captain Ethan Wu, and held their own in the High School Esports League Spring Major, placing 77th out of 203 teams.  The team consisted of Ethan Wu, Travis Morris, Nolan Kimball, Alec Bunn, and Tristan Fogle, with great help from Nathan Huang, who subbed in during times of great need.

The Minecraft team was a force to be reckoned with, despite being outside of their comfort zone on the Bedwars playing field (a different playstyle available in Minecraft). The team consisted of team captain Gabriel Gustafson, Steel Lindauer, Gibson Montgomery, and Ronan Gortler.  Their hard practice all year paid off in their rankings out of 265 players nationwide: Gibson – 25th; Steel – 28th; Gabriel – 30th; Ronan – 107th.

"We are so proud of the first-ever SGS Esports team, and look to continue a long tradition of dominating on the digital field!" says Thomas Hurst, the Esports team coordinator.  Go Dragons!
