Boys Freshmen Runners Win Regional Cross Country Meet

September 13, 2021

Saint George's 9th grade boys posted an impressive team victory in the first major high school cross country meet of the fall.  At the Shadle Park Highlander Invitational on Sept. 11, Hrair Garabedian finished 1st in a time of 14:15 over the 2.5 mile course.  He was followed by Joaquin Kiltz (5th), Finn Horsted (11th), and Shawn Jones (14th).  The fact that they outran teams from the Greater Spokane League and as far away as the Tri-Cities, Wenatchee, and Moses Lake makes it all the more impressive!  Ben Morales also won the Sophomore race with a time of 14:28.

In the Highlander Invitational girls' races, Josie McLaughlin won the girls' Freshman race in 16:40, more than a minute ahead of the 2nd place finisher.  Esther Buckner finished 9th overall and Andee West was 20th.  The Dragons also ran well in the girls' Junior Varsity race, with Maggie McLaughlin (9th overall), Georgia Steele (13th), Clara Witmer (17th), and Lauren West (30th).  See a Photo Gallery of our runners, view the full Meet Results, and see the Spokesman Article that quotes coach Rick Riley saying, "The talent we have in our younger classes is incredible."  Go Dragons!
