IB English Student Stage "Climate Summit"

December 11, 2017

On Wednesday, Dec. 6, the IB English class of junior and senior international students held a mock "Climate Summit".  They spoke as delegates from assigned countries on their position regarding Kyoto Protocol/Paris Agreement/Climate Change policies.  The students researched the issues surrounding global warming and climate change and argued from the adopted perspective of the country assigned using clear, accurate, and varied language.  Each country's delegates gave a 3-5 minute opening statement, followed by a 40-minute question and answer session, finishing with 2-3 minutes of closing remarks.

"Their goal was to come together to discuss how to help solve the world’s climate issues," says International Student Coordinator Elizabeth Tender.  "I was very impressed with the research, preparation and their skills in presenting their points of view!"  IB English teacher Kerry Clark was pleased "with their clear, accurate, and varied language," while Chinese Teacher Qingqing Ji says, "They were able to articulate complex ideas to defend and challenge each other. They looked pretty professional as well the whole time."
