6th Grade Visits Fish Hatchery

January 22, 2018

The 6th grade class visited the state fish hatchery next door to SGS on Friday, January 19.  This outing helps students learn about the life cycle stages of trout and their care in preparation for raising trout in the classroom. See a Photo Gallery of their visit.

The students brought back 100 Rainbow Trout eggs to put in a 50-gallon tank in their classroom.  This is the seventh year the 6th grade has raised trout, culminating in a release day at Bear Lake in May.  This also leads into their joint Science/Social Studies Spring River unit, which includes the salmon life cycle and how salmon populations are affected by dams and fish hatcheries in the Northwest.
