MS Math Is Cool Teams Are Tops
The Jan. 26 Math is Cool Regional Competition had some confusion over the results, says coach Shane Kangas, but Saint George's will send two Middle School teams to State.
The 6th grade team captured 1st Place in their division and earned the highest score in the entire Spokane competition! Congratulations to Sam Morris, Gabby Haigh, Annalie Nachreiner, Steel Lindauer, Kiya Kangas, Kara Chiang, Henri Osborne, Neal Virk, Ben Morales, Robby Witmer, Jack Curry, and Jaiden Nagra for all their hard work. Kara Chaing had the top individual score in our division, which was the highest score of the event! The top four individual scorers -- Kara, Sam, Steel, and Annalie -- will make up the State Masters team that will be competing in Moses Lake on April 21.
The 7th grade team took 4th Place in the “phi” division, the second highest division in the competition. The 7th grade participants were Minnie Ohnback, Yasmine Tehrani, Rona Smith, Peyton Dixon, Nate Henning, John Nowland, Gabe Gustafson, and Paul Poole.
The 8th grade team earned 2nd Place and also qualified for the State Masters event on April 21. The team of Tariq Ravasia, Stella Brown, Ethan Wu, and James Gunn had the 2nd highest score of all the 8th grade teams during both the Mead and Mount Si competitions! Individual awards went to Stella Brown for 3rd place, and Tariq Ravasia for 2nd place overall.
