Boys Basketball Finishes 2nd in State

The Dragons opened the State 2B Tournament with a 54-40 quarter-final win over Brewster (see Photo Gallery and Video Highlights).  In the semi-final game vs Liberty, the Dragons had to come from behind to force overtime and pull out a 64-60 victory (see S-R Article, Photo Gallery and Video of the end of regulation and overtime).  In the State Championship Game, Saint George's stayed close to the defending champion Kittitas Coyotes, trailing by just 3 at halftime.  But cold shooting in the second half put the Dragons in a hole they couldn't climb out of, losing 65-50.  It was their only loss of the season, earning the 2nd place State trophy (see S-R Article, Photo Gallery, Video of Introductions and Video Highlights).  See the final Boys Tournament Bracket with all the results.    

"We played well enough to win, we defended well enough to be there in the end," SGS coach Ryan Peplinski said to a Spokesman-Review reporter afterwards.  "I don't think we left a lot out there.  This was a special group."  ?
