Three Takes on Shakespeare for Spring Drama

To celebrate the 454th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s death, the Saint George’s Upper School is presenting an evening of One-Act plays dedicated to poking fun at the world’s most revered playwright.  After all, Shakespeare himself was a jokester, a punster and a wry observer of life – both real and theatrical.  Performances are 7:00pm on Thursday, March 22, Friday, March 23, and Saturday, March 24 in Founders Theatre.  There is no cost and no reservations needed, so come and enjoy the plays.  

In WHEN SHAKESPEARE’S LADIES MEET, five of the bard’s most famous heroines descend upon Juliet in her garden in order to warn her of the pitfalls of love.  A discourse on love ensues, by turns cynical and romantic, fanciful and practical – and somewhat unexpected. In THE AUDITION, another eminent playwright is put in his place by comparison to the bard.  And THE ACTOR’S NIGHTMARE asks the eternal question – can an accountant play HAMLET in a strange theatre, wearing the wrong costume, and without a single rehearsal?  The answer is both obvious and terrifying!  Plus, the entire cast will finish the evening with the remarkable, and remarkably brief, 34 SECOND HAMLET.
