Debate Teams Finish 2nd & 4th at State

Two young Saint George’s teams reached the Final Four against schools of all sizes (4A-2B) at the State Debate Tournament at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma on March 17-18.  Top seeded junior Kylie Vera (the tournament’s top speaker overall) and her partner, sophomore Grace Generous (2nd speaker overall) met SGS sophomores Charlie Darnall and Nik Chaudhry in the semifinals, with Vera & Generous advancing based on seeding.  Vera and Generous eventually lost a split decision to Interlake HS in a close final round.  Our teams took 2nd and 4th at the tournament, good enough to earn a rare Saint George’s third place State tournament-wide sweepstakes award.  Each of these debaters will be back in the fall to contend for another State title.  Go Dragons!
