DeForest at Jr. National Cross Country Ski Championships

SGS 10th grader John DeForest is competing at the Junior National Cross Country Ski Championships this week (March 10-15) in Anchorage, Alaska.  He goes to the competition ranked 7th among 15- and 16-year olds in the Pacific Northwest Region.  John, whose first ski coach was former SGS math teacher Judson Ford, qualified for the meet over the course of five races in Washington, Oregon, and Utah this winter.  He races both classic style (skis parallel to each other) and freestyle (like skating).  The competition includes both sprints and distance races up to 5 km.  Go John!
