Parents of seniors are invited to the Dragon Room on Wednesday, October 2 from 6-8pm to learn what students are doing to prepare for the college application season. (This event was previously set for Sept. 25.)  Some topics we will cover are what seniors should be doing now to prepare to submit applications, what parents can do to help, how to complete the FAFSA and understand the costs of college, what seniors and parents can expect for the months to come, and how SGS college counselors help students throughout this process. There will be time for parents to ask questions that pertain to the whole group and afterwards on an individual basis.  If you plan to attend, please RSVP by emailing Kerry Clark at Kerry.clark@sgs.org.

Four members of Saint George's Class of 2020 have been recognized by the National Merit Scholarship organization for their outstanding performance on the PSAT test last fall.  Marshall Roll and Sarah Wu were named National Merit Semifinalists for finishing among the top 16,000 students out of 1.6 million who took the test nationwide.  They are eligible to reach Finalist status in February 2020 with the potential of earning a $2,500 college scholarship.  In addition, Miya Jacobs and Kathryn Moon were named National Merit Commended Scholars for finishing among the top 50,000 students nationwide in the PSAT.  Congratulations to all four seniors who are among the top academic students in the country! 

The 10th graders took a three-day trip during the first week of school to the Portland area to visit the University of Portland, Willamette University, Oregon State University, and Linfield College.  They talked with Admissions officers, tour guides, and even SGS alumni to learn about what college life is like and how to prepare for it.  See a Photo Gallery of their trip and the schools they toured.

The senior class spend August 27th in the Library learning about the college application process and then drafting personal essays and resumes.  See a Photo Gallery of them hard at work.

Duke, Georgetown, Harvard, Penn, and Stanford will have admission representatives in Spokane on Monday, Sept. 9 to give a group presentation on the admission requirements for each of those schools.  This event is held at the DoubleTree by Hilton Spokane City Center.  The presentation is designed for high school students and their parents.  You must register to be eligible to attend; here is the Link to Register.  The organizers suggest arriving 15 to 20 minutes beforehand to complete the sign-in process and find a seat.  Programs typically last one and a half hours.

Representatives from fifteen Jesuit colleges and universities from across the U.S. gathered in the Upper School Courtyard on April 29 to talk to students about what their schools have to offer.  See a Photo Gallery of the students engaging in good conversations and getting acquainted with schools they may not have been aware of.

SGS students visited a variety of colleges and universities in the Boston area over the week of spring break.  They toured Tufts University, Northeastern University, Harvard University, Boston College, Boston University, Babson College, Bentley University, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.  See a Photo Gallery of them exploring different academic environments before deciding where they might like to apply.
