The 10th graders took a three-day trip during the first week of school to the Portland area to visit the University of Portland, Willamette University, Oregon State University, and Linfield College.  They talked with Admissions officers, tour guides, and even SGS alumni to learn about what college life is like and how to prepare for it.  See a Photo Gallery of their trip and the schools they toured.

Students headed into the Upper School on Monday, Aug. 26 posed with "frames" to celebrate the first day of school.  See a Photo Gallery of them beginning the 2019-20 school year!

Duke, Georgetown, Harvard, Penn, and Stanford will have admission representatives in Spokane on Monday, Sept. 9 to give a group presentation on the admission requirements for each of those schools.  This event is held at the DoubleTree by Hilton Spokane City Center.  The presentation is designed for high school students and their parents.  You must register to be eligible to attend; here is the Link to Register.  The organizers suggest arriving 15 to 20 minutes beforehand to complete the sign-in process and find a seat.  Programs typically last one and a half hours.

Thursday, Sept. 5 from 6:30-8:00pm is Back to School Night in the Lower School.  Parents are invited to meet with your child's teachers and learn about the lessons and activities planned for Lower School students this fall.  This is also your opportunity to meet our Specialists and School Counselor and learn about their amazing programs.  See Kathy Johnson's Letter for more details.

The junior class spent August 27th in the Dragon's Den learning about the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.  See a Photo Gallery of them listening thoughtfully and taking a self-assessment quiz.

SGS 9th graders are headed out to Upper Priest Lake on Tuesday, Aug. 27, while the 10th graders leave that day for a three-day trip to Oregon to visit different colleges and universities.  The 11th graders are off on Wednesday, Aug. 28 to the Lake Spokane campground for an overnight trip and service project, while the 12th graders head out that day to Camp Reed.  All classes return on Thursday, Aug. 29 to prepare for the Dragon Dance on Friday afternoon (2:15pm) on Graduation Lawn.  See more details about each trip at the bottom of the 2019 Back to School Documents webpage (password = inspiring)

Welcome to SGS!  Classes begin on Tuesday, Aug. 27 for the Middle School (grades 6-8), with a parent coffee hosted by the Parents Association from 8-9am in Peter's Garden between the Dragon Room and Library. 

Classes begin on Wednesday, Aug. 28 for the Lower School (grades K-5), although parents and students are welcome to the LS Meet and Greet the previous afternoon (Tue., Aug. 27) from 3-4pm to visit your student's classroom.  A parent coffee for LS parents is hosted by the PA from 8-9am on Wednesday in the Errol Schmidt Athletic Center from 8:15-9am.  

Rick Petrini's Outdoor Math summer camp explored the fun of mathematics around the SGS campus the week of August 12-16.  See photo galleries of them using triangulation and tape measures to calculate the Height of Trees around Graduation Lawn, as well as Racing Boats made of various shapes of aluminum foil in the stream running through campus.

Students built rockets and the fuel to make them fly in a fun summer camp in July.  See a Photo Gallery of their creations and test firing their engines.

Students learned programs and electrical systems from the SGS Robotics Team to create their own robots that could "battle" at the end of a week-long summer camp.  See a Photo Gallery of their design process and the results.
